We are very fortunate to have wonderful grounds with a meadow and woodlands. All children at Goodly Dale take part in regular outdoor sessions.
The EYFS and KS1 classes have a half-day Forest School session every week and the KS2 classes have either a Forest School session or an outdoor curriculum focused session, such as map reading, story telling or a science based activity.
Forest Schools is a specific approach to learning outside the classroom. It supports the delivery of the curriculum in a creative and inspiring way and allows children to initiate their own play in a natural environment. It plays a significant role in developing a range of skills and dispositions including risk-taking, self-esteem, motivation to learn, problem solving skills, independence, speech and language, emotional intelligence, resilience, balance and coordination. Children have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of activities including den making, identifying flora and fauna, creative play, problem solving and team building activities, orienteering, environmental art and craft, fire making. Every session is brought to a close by sharing and reviewing the session.
Most children thoroughly enjoy their time in the outdoor environment and are eager to return.
